We all know the holidays are supposed to be a time of warmth and laughter … of joyful gatherings with family and friends …

And I hope that’s true for you, my dear.

But what if the holidays are not joyful for you?

What if your past experiences of the holidays make you feel anxious about seeing your family this time of year?

Like any sane person, you dread the prospect of spending time with dreadful people who happen to be related to you.

Look, it would be kind of weird if you enjoyed being tortured in the name of holiday cheer.

Here’s the thing

You can’t do anything about the way your family members behave, short of calling the cops and having them hauled off to jail.

What you can do is change the way you think about your family members, so you can enjoy the enjoyable folks without letting the others spoil your fun.

Changing your mind about your family can be hard to do on your own …

So here are some tips to help you get started.

Do You Expect Your Loved Ones to be Different This Time?

Do This Instead

  1. Stop judging folks who behave the way they want – instead of the way you want. Respect the right of others to be exactly as they are, even if you think they could stand some improvement.
  2. Ask yourself, “What would happen if, just for today, I accept everyone for who they are?”
  3. Approach each person with an open mind and an open heart. You will feel better, and so will they

Do You Allow Bullies to Back You into a Corner?

Do This Instead

  1. Prepare to flee as soon as you feel attacked, verbally or physically. Forget hoping the bully will back off. Bullies don’t work that way.
  2. Excuse yourself, saying, “Got to go. I need to make a phone call.” Or whatever. Just get out of there. You do not have to put up with this behavior.
  3. Stay under the radar of the bully. Leave if you must. A party is not the time or place for a showdown. Save it for another time.

Do You Make Being Right Your Top Priority?

Do This Instead

  1. Respect the opinions of others, however misguided they seem to you.
  2. Ask yourself, “Would I rather fight, or enjoy this time with my loved ones?”
  3. Say, “Let’s agree to disagree. Truce? Can I get you a drink, or something to eat?” Bring them what they want. Enjoy your time together.

You have the right to protect yourself, whatever your relatives may have told you.

Here’s the deal:

Your ego-mind is the part of you that insists you have to prove your worth before you can have Abundance.

That also happens to be the part of you that will never recognize your worth, whatever you may achieve.

Why is that?

Your ego-mind believes that if you realize you already deserve good things, exactly as you are right now, the ego-mind will lose its ability to dominate you through fear.

Would it be so terrible if you stopped using fear as a motivator?

What if you could be motivated by love to walk toward the deepest desires of your heart?

Maybe today is a good day for you to know your worthiness can never be proved or disproved, validated or invalidated. It can only be revealed.

Put one hand over your heart and one hand on your belly.

Close your eyes …

And take in a deep breath as you say, “I am One with Goodness …”

And let out a deep breath as you say, “And Goodness is One with Me.”

Let’s do this twice more.

Do You Have Shiny Object Syndrome?

This expensive malady can bust your budget …

As Summer winds down, are you pondering a Fall project to bring 2017 to a fabulous finish?

There are so many great programs out there to help you:

  • Write your book
  • Launch your business
  • Begin a blog, podcast, or video series
  • Market your products or services
  • Monetize your message

So many options.

So little time.

How do you choose what to work on next?

Before you start any new project to build your biz or brand, let me ask you:

Whatever success means to you, how worthy of success do you feel, on a scale of 1 to 10?

Notice the first number that pops into your head.

If it’s “8” or above, you’re good to go. Choose the project that excites you the most – and go for it. Doing what delights you helps you stay the course once the initial excitement wears off.

If it’s “7” or under, file under “Later” the program(s) you’re thinking about joining.

You’re on the verge of falling into Shiny Object Syndrome – a debt-generating malady that drives you to:

  • Sign up for exciting new programs …
  • Avoid starting or finishing the program …
  • Get distracted by a new Shiny Object …
  • Buy it …
  • Avoid starting or finishing it …

And so it goes, expensively ever after.

What is up with that?

Deep down, you feel unworthy of the success you believe the project will bring you…

So, whether you fear success or failure (or both), you unconsciously sabotage yourself with indecision, distraction (hello, new Shiny Object!), or realizing you must re-pot all your plants before you can concentrate on your new project.

Sound familiar?

It does to me. I’ve done all those things. How about you?

Here’s the thing. It’s not your fault.

If you’re like me, you’ve cultivated a sense of unworthiness since you were a child, out of a very understandable desire to avoid accusations like, “You’re getting too big for your britches,” “Who do you think you are?” or “How can you be so selfish?”

The great news:

You fell into a trance of unworthiness, and you can come out of it. Self Worth Here and Now

You start waking up the moment you decide to do so.

Then, you consciously own your worthiness so you can get unstuck and keep moving forward.

You may have to own your worthiness several times a day, until you shed your unconscious addiction to self-doubt … but think of the rewards:

  • Authentic self-confidence that empowers you to trust yourself to handle the wonderful people and exciting opportunities attracted by the glowing charisma confidence gives you
  • Deeply rooted self-respect that allows you to set healthy boundaries, so you have the time, energy and focus needed to move toward the greatness waiting to meet you
  • Heartfelt self-compassion that lets you see missteps as bumps in the road, rather than the end of the road, so you can stay motivated to find the Abundance that wants to find you.
