It may be that your unconscious mind blocks your clarity because it believes something like:

  • If I get clarity, I’ll have to leave behind everyone and everything, and move to a strange new place
  • If I get clarity, I’ll realize how unhappy I am, and that will make me more miserable than ever
  • If I get clarity, I’ll have to quit my job and then I’ll end up homeless

Reason #1 Why It’s Hard to Get Clarity

It can be hard to have clarity if part of you believes clarity is a really bad idea.

If you tend to feel confused about what you want or how to get it, chances are you have unconscious beliefs blocking your ability to set and reach goals that are meaningful to you.

It’s not your fault

If you’re like most people, you grew up hearing “No!” a lot – from parents, teachers, big brothers and other authority figures.

Maybe you stopped asking for what you want because you knew your request would be refused – so why bother to ask?

Maybe you even pretended you didn’t want anything, to avoid the pain and shame of yet another “No.”

Repressing desires that you feel sure will go unsatisfied is a normal way of protecting yourself from disappointment.

The downside: you lose yourself when you lose touch with your dreams and desires.

So, if you have trouble getting clear about your dreams or goals, it may be because a very strong, smart, loving part of you believes that if you get clarity, something bad will happen.

Here’s the bottom line

It’s impossible to create a fulfilling life unless you know what fulfills you.

This involves knowing what you want, need, and value – the first step to turning your dreams into your reality.

Part of you already knows. More clarity will come when confusion stops serving you.

You see, getting clarity can seem scary if your wounded inner child believes clarity = disappointment, rejection, or shame. What sane person wants that?

So, none of your blocks to clarity will go away until your unconscious mind believes it is safe for you to know what you want and how to get it.

What makes your heart soar?

Young Derek loves Superman comics, movies and TV shows. He’s so crazy about the Man of Steel, he wants to BE Superman.

One of Superman’s coolest powers is that he can fly … so Derek decides he will fly, too.

He climbs up on the roof, secures his Superman cape (one of Mom’s faded gym towels) and dives into the air, aiming for the big oak tree across the street.

He plops into the hydrangea bush just below his jumping-off point.

Derek’s mother, Susan, glimpses his plunge from the window in her home office. She jumps up and runs into the yard at warp speed to check on her boy.

Susan finds Derek cradled in the bush, more shaken than hurt.

“Honey, what happened? You’re bleeding!”

“I’m the Man of Steel, Mom,” Derek explains. “What’s the big deal about a few scratches? Get me out of here so I can try it again.”

“Forget it, kiddo. I thought a young man of 7 would have more sense than to jump off a roof, but I guess not.”

Susan checks Derek for bruises and finds none. She extracts him from the bush and sends him into the house to wash, breathing deeply to keep herself from screaming at her son.

“It’s a time-out for you, after you clean up. I want you to think about what you’ve done.”

Moments later, sitting in a corner facing the wall, Derek tries to figure out what went wrong, using one of his real-life superpowers – intelligence.


“Why didn’t I fly?”

“Is it because I’m a loser, like Tommy said the other day when he beat me up and took my lunch money? No, that’s not it. Tommy is a bully. He’s the loser, not me.

“Is it because I don’t deserve to fly? I don’t see a connection there. What does being deserving have to do with being able to fly?

“Is it because I forgot something? I had everything … no. Wait. I forgot Superman is from Krypton. That’s why he can fly. And I’m from Earth … so … I guess I can’t fly, after all.

“But I want to fly more than anything. I can see myself flying, in my mind. It’s so clear. If I could just draw it, maybe I could …”

“Okay, Derek, time’s up! Did you think about what you did?”

“Yeah, Mom. Do we have anything to draw with, around here?”

Fast-forward 15 years

Derek sits beaming at his booth at Comic-Con, where hundreds of fans have lined up to meet him – the   world-famous creator of “Dynamic Derek – Boy Genius” comics.


Much as he loves creating superheroes for DC Comics, his biggest thrill comes from seeing all the boys and girls who love Dynamic Derek.

Knowing he’s inspired them fills Derek with awe and gratitude. It makes his heart soar higher than Superman ever thought of flying.

Why You Can Face 2018 with Confidence

It’s the most natural thing in the world to imagine the New Year will be even more rocky than the old year, when you’re in a “life sucks” state of mind.

If looking ahead with dread makes you feel more prepared for whatever may come in 2018, go for it. Plenty of people prefer to expect the worst, in hopes of avoiding disappointment and the pain of dashed dreams.

Here’s the thing – As a wise man once said, “In life, you don’t get what you want. You get what you expect.” A self-fulfilling prophecy cuts both ways.


Expect the worst, and you very often get it. Expect the best, and you very often get it.

So, if you prefer to face 2018 with confidence instead of fear, here are some tips to help you make it happen.

Why faith in yourself is justified

  • Did you start something new in 2017?
  • Did you end something that was draining your energy?
  • Did you reach a goal?
  • Did you decide to let someone or something go?
  • Did you jump on an opportunity and ride it out?
  • Did you dodge a bullet?
  • Did you forgive someone?
  • Did you let yourself off the hook from doing something you never wanted to do?
  • Did you give yourself permission to succeed?
  • Did you give yourself permission to fail?
  • Did you make a difference in someone’s life?
  • Did you do something super-fun?

Whatever happened last year, you have acquired priceless information about what does and does not work for you. About what matters to you, and what doesn’t. About what you value, and what you hold cheap.

This knowledge equips you to make even smarter choices in 2018.

So, now what?

Action Steps

  1. Note your wins. Write down your accomplishments from the past year: the gains; the insights; the healing… The letting go of something unwanted; the overcoming of a challenge; the patient endurance of something that had to be endured; the surrender of the illusion of control over someone or something you can never, ever control.
  2. Savor your victories. Take a moment to re-live and savor the excitement, the relief, or the triumph you felt after each experience. Sometimes, simply surviving an ordeal counts as a victory … over circumstances, and over your own self-doubt.


3. Recognize you have a lot to be proud of. Consider: Were there any accomplishments you felt sure you would never pull off? And yet, you did pull them off. Congratulations!

4. Light up your brain. Hold each of your shining accomplishments in your mind for a moment, one by one. Imagine gathering them into a glittering bouquet of brilliance.

5. You stepped up before, so you can do it again. Look upon this glowing garland as proof that in 2018, you will be able to be, do and have more than you can imagine right now … just as you did in 2017.

6. Power it up. Picture yourself placing this light in your heart. Let it guide your steps as you walk into 2018 with confidence and joy.

7. Remember, you never walk alone. Whatever you do, whatever you choose … never think for a moment that you are doing it by yourself. Unseen forces come into play the moment you take action – creating momentum, generating opportunities and helping you over the hard places.

This year, consider praying to your Higher Power as your first response, rather than your last resort … and watch what happens.

There is genius, power and magic in you. Let it shine in the year to come, my dear!

6 Ways to Sidestep Holiday Fatigue

If the holidays drain your energy, check out these tips.

Here’s the bottom line:

No one is going to take you by the hand and say, “Hey, you’re overdoing it. Take a break, will you?”

So, if you want to avoid keeling over from exhaustion, you need to add breaks to your day. Every day.

If in doubt, remember this: You are allowed to protect and hold sacred your precious personal time and energy.

Try these 6 tips if you’re too wrapped up in your holiday to-do list to relax.

If you’re thirsty, drink some water.

If you’re hungry, eat something nourishing.

If you’re tired, take time to rest.

2) Take Time to Breathe

Slowly breathe in peace.

Slowly breathe out chaos.

If you don’t know how to do that, just imagine that you’re breathing in peace and breathing out chaos. Repeat 3 times. Do as often as needed.

Do each task mindfully, giving it your entire attention until it’s finished. Focusing on one thing at a time reduces brain fatigue.

4) List Tasks You Can Delegate

Hand off those tasks to others, and hand them off completely. Avoid micromanaging your helpers.

Let them do things their way. The results may delight you.

5) List Tasks You’re Not Sure Are Necessary

Skip doing those tasks and see what happens this time. If anyone notices, smile and shrug – “Hey, I ran out of time. How about if you do it next year?”

If you’re one of those people who only gets something done if it’s on your calendar – add breaks to your calendar, and take them.

Set a timer during your break so you don’t need to watch the clock. It will help you relax more fully in the time allotted.

Reconnect with the spirit of the season

In many faith traditions, this time of year celebrates the miracle of light coming forth during the darkest days of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

Whether you honor that light as a person, an earthly event, or a happening in the heavens – that light dwells within you, as well.

If you look for that light, you will find it, because nothing can extinguish it. It is eternal and unchanging.

And so the light in me bows to the light in you. Blessed be.

How to Feel Worthy of Abundance 4

If you believe your Higher Power wants you to be poor – this tip is for you.

Here’s another great tip on Opening to Receive Abundance by feeling worthy of it – since you will allow yourself to receive as much as you feel worthy of having … no more, and no less.

If you’re of the millions of people who believe your Higher Power wants you to be poor – this tip is for you.


Whatever you call that which is greater than yourself –  your Higher Power, Hashem, Allah, God, Jesus, Source, the Oversoul, the Quantum Field … You are part of it, and it is part of you, because we are all One.

Quantum physicists tell us that in this holographic universe, the part is in the whole and the whole in the part, which means everything is connected to everything else.

What does that mean for you personally, in terms of Abundance?

Whether you are rich or poor, loved or lonely, tall or short …

You can never be closer to your Higher Power than you are right now …

And you can never be farther from your Higher Power than you are right now.

So, you might as well be rich.

You might as well be successful.

You might as well be cherished by someone you love.

Even if you have everything you want, you will still be close to your Higher Power, because nothing can separate you.

Maybe today is a good day for you to imagine your Higher Power wants for you what you want for yourself. Maybe that’s why you want what you want – because your Higher Power wants it for you.

Put one hand over your heart and one hand on your belly.

Close your eyes …

And take in a deep breath as you say, “I am One with my Higher Power …”

And let out a deep breath as you say, “And my Higher Power is One with Me.”

Let’s do this twice more. Your unconscious mind needs to hear something three times to believe it.

Again, deep breath in … “I am One with my Higher Power …”

Deep breath out, “And my Higher Power is One with Me.”
