Reason #2 Why It’s Hard to Find Your Passion

Too much loss can make you lose faith in life, making finding your passion seem pointless

It can be hard to find your passion if you have little or no faith in life.

If doubt and disbelief arise when you think about finding and pursuing a passion, chances are you feel too betrayed by life to risk taking a chance one more time.

It’s not your fault

sad by-pablo-varela-311608

If you’re like most people, you have experienced loss and suffering time and time again.

To avoid further disappointment, you gave up hoping for anything better.

Closing the door on hope is a normal self-protective practice – until it shrivels your soul and you trudge through your days with nothing fun or good to look forward to.

So, if you can’t find your passion, it may be because you’re afraid to believe again – which is understandable, given your past experiences.

Yet, without passion … without a joyful reason to get up in the morning … you are only going through the motions of living. You are half alive.

Waiting by-kyle-broad-29486

Here’s the bottom line

If you want to find your passion, you need to find a reason to believe again.

If you’re like most people, you feel betrayed by life because things haven’t always gone your way – therefore, you cannot trust life.

This line of reasoning only proves the shortcomings of logic, because it overlooks the bigger picture:

Life is a dynamic process, always on the move. Our planet hurtles through space at more than 500,000 miles per hour.

To expect that life will always go in the direction you want is to invite disappointment.

Instead of declaring life to be bad and wrong because it hasn’t followed your game plan, consider revising your game plan to include faith that whatever happens, you will handle it somehow.

It stands to reason because you’ve handled everything life has brought you, so far. The fact that you are breathing in and out proves that you are strong and smart and brave and lucky, for many people have not lived to see the age you are right now.

Why You Can Face 2018 with Confidence

It’s the most natural thing in the world to imagine the New Year will be even more rocky than the old year, when you’re in a “life sucks” state of mind.

If looking ahead with dread makes you feel more prepared for whatever may come in 2018, go for it. Plenty of people prefer to expect the worst, in hopes of avoiding disappointment and the pain of dashed dreams.

Here’s the thing – As a wise man once said, “In life, you don’t get what you want. You get what you expect.” A self-fulfilling prophecy cuts both ways.

alex-iby-297804

Expect the worst, and you very often get it. Expect the best, and you very often get it.

So, if you prefer to face 2018 with confidence instead of fear, here are some tips to help you make it happen.

Why faith in yourself is justified

  • Did you start something new in 2017?
  • Did you end something that was draining your energy?
  • Did you reach a goal?
  • Did you decide to let someone or something go?
  • Did you jump on an opportunity and ride it out?
  • Did you dodge a bullet?
  • Did you forgive someone?
  • Did you let yourself off the hook from doing something you never wanted to do?
  • Did you give yourself permission to succeed?
  • Did you give yourself permission to fail?
  • Did you make a difference in someone’s life?
  • Did you do something super-fun?

Whatever happened last year, you have acquired priceless information about what does and does not work for you. About what matters to you, and what doesn’t. About what you value, and what you hold cheap.

This knowledge equips you to make even smarter choices in 2018.

So, now what?

Action Steps

  1. Note your wins. Write down your accomplishments from the past year: the gains; the insights; the healing… The letting go of something unwanted; the overcoming of a challenge; the patient endurance of something that had to be endured; the surrender of the illusion of control over someone or something you can never, ever control.
  2. Savor your victories. Take a moment to re-live and savor the excitement, the relief, or the triumph you felt after each experience. Sometimes, simply surviving an ordeal counts as a victory … over circumstances, and over your own self-doubt.

arnold-exconde-289207

3. Recognize you have a lot to be proud of. Consider: Were there any accomplishments you felt sure you would never pull off? And yet, you did pull them off. Congratulations!

4. Light up your brain. Hold each of your shining accomplishments in your mind for a moment, one by one. Imagine gathering them into a glittering bouquet of brilliance.

5. You stepped up before, so you can do it again. Look upon this glowing garland as proof that in 2018, you will be able to be, do and have more than you can imagine right now … just as you did in 2017.

Hands of Light by-rhett-wesley-343206

6. Power it up. Picture yourself placing this light in your heart. Let it guide your steps as you walk into 2018 with confidence and joy.

7. Remember, you never walk alone. Whatever you do, whatever you choose … never think for a moment that you are doing it by yourself. Unseen forces come into play the moment you take action – creating momentum, generating opportunities and helping you over the hard places.

This year, consider praying to your Higher Power as your first response, rather than your last resort … and watch what happens.

There is genius, power and magic in you. Let it shine in the year to come, my dear!

Video: 3 Ways to Deal with Grief over the Holidays

It’s natural to feel the loss of loved ones more sharply over the holidays.

And it can be hard to handle grief, which can show up as sadness, anger, loneliness, rage against the injustice of a loved one’s passing – even feeling heartsick about a loved one who has not yet passed, but soon will.

Here are some ideas that I hope will bring you a bit of comfort.

If your grief deepens into anguish or depression, please consider seeing your medical practitioner to eliminate the possibility of a physical condition causing some of your emotional turmoil.

If you’re thinking of harming yourself, please call 911 or a suicide hotline. You matter. You are needed. You are loved, even if you feel unloved right now.

Bless you, my dear! Peace be with you.

Do the Holidays Make You Crazy?

“I have to do everything myself!”

“Every time I do something to help, you tell me I’m doing it wrong.”

“That’s because you are doing it wrong, you idiot – so, I have to do everything myself!”

It’s crazy …

The way a time of year that’s supposed to be all about light and love can so easily turn into a series of battles …

Battles inside of you, where you’re fighting exhaustion and frustration…

crazy by-edgar-perez-424673

And battles outside of you, where you’re fighting with loved ones, long lines everywhere, and holiday helpers who, frankly, are not helpful.

“How can I enjoy the holidays when my loved one is gone?”

“I can’t afford to get anything for anyone.”

Sad by-francisco-moreno-255749

It’s amazing…

That the holidays are supposed to be joyful, when they can create so much misery.

Who can blame you for dreading the holiday season, with the bustling crowds, sky-high expectations and mountains of debt they can generate?

The holidays could be a wonderful time of the year, if they didn’t loom in your mind as a test you believe you will fail.

Where is the joy in that?
